Writer · United Kingdom

Adam Baron: creator of Cymbeline Igloo, whose funny, chatty voice wraps genuinely moving stories of grief and family for confident 9–12 readers.

Adam Baron is a British novelist and Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Kingston University London, who came to children's fiction after a career as an actor and crime writer. His debut for young readers, Boy Underwater (2018), introduced Cymbeline Igloo, a chatty, football-mad narrator forever getting the wrong end of the stick, and grew into a warmly loved quartet running through You Won't Believe This, This Wonderful Thing and Some Sunny Day. Drawing on his own childhood loss, Baron pairs laugh-out-loud comedy with genuinely tender stories about grief, a parent's mental illness, blended families and belonging. His books are firm favourites for reading aloud in the upper primary years, tackling real emotional weight with a light, funny touch that never talks down to its readers.
