Aron Nels Steinke is an American cartoonist and former elementary-school teacher based in Portland, Oregon, best known for the Mr. Wolf's Class graphic-novel series. Drawing directly on his years in the classroom, he peoples Hazelwood Elementary with a large, effortlessly diverse cast of animal fourth-graders and their kind teacher, Mr. Wolf, capturing the small dramas of school exactly as they feel to a child: friendships made and mended, jealousies, worries and the everyday work of belonging. Told in bright, gentle full-colour comics, the books are low-peril, big-hearted and quietly funny. Steinke is an Eisner Award winner (for The Zoo Box, with Ariel Cohn) and an Oregon Book Award recipient. A warm, welcoming graphic-novel series for 6–9s finding their feet at school.
