Daniel Egnéus is a Swedish illustrator, born in 1972, who has lived and worked across Europe, from Prague and London to Bologna, Rome and Athens. Largely self-taught, he is known for luminous, painterly, dreamlike images built up in watercolour, ink and acrylic, work that has ranged from fashion and advertising to book illustration. In children's publishing he brings that same atmospheric intensity to picture books, most notably Fox: A Circle of Life Story, written by Isabel Thomas, where his glowing forest scenes turn the science of death and decay into something quietly beautiful. His illustrations for The Thing, written by Simon Puttock, were named among the Guardian's best illustrated books of 2016, and he was voted Best Illustrator by the UK Association of Illustrators in 2005. A distinctive, painterly choice for books that want beauty and feeling on every page.
