Daniel Miyares is a master of wordless, visual storytelling whose picture books, such as the paper-boat adventure Float, let children bring their own words to a quietly moving tale.

Daniel Miyares is an American author and illustrator who grew up in the foothills of South Carolina, studied illustration at Ringling College of Art and Design, and now lives and works in Kansas City. He is a picture-book maker with a real gift for visual storytelling, often carrying an entire narrative through pictures alone. Float, his wordless story of a boy, a paper boat and a rainy-day adventure of joy, small loss and comfort, shows that gift at its clearest, its near-monochrome art washed with a single bright yellow. Alongside his own titles he illustrates for other writers, and he received a Newbery Honor for The Many Assassinations of Samir, the Seller of Dreams. Warm, quietly emotional and beautifully composed, his books are a natural for shared storytelling and for children who read as much through pictures as words.
