David DeGrand is a MAD Magazine and SpongeBob Comics cartoonist whose gleefully grotesque art powers gross-out comedy such as Snot Goblins and Other Tasteless Tales.

David DeGrand is an American cartoonist and illustrator based in Texas, born in 1979. He cut his teeth in the gleefully gross-out tradition of American humour comics, spending nine years as one of the regular contributors to MAD Magazine before writing and drawing for SpongeBob Comics and other cartoon tie-in titles. That sensibility, bold, rubbery and revelling in the revolting, carries straight into his children's work, including his illustrations for Snot Goblins and Other Tasteless Tales, Rob Kutner's middle-grade horror-comedy anthology of booger demons and soft-hearted monsters. DeGrand's cartooning is exuberantly grotesque but never mean, the kind of art that hooks reluctant readers who like their comics funny, scary and a bit disgusting all at once. A reliable choice for the gross-out-comedy shelf.
