Dermot Flynn: the Dublin illustrator behind Fia and the Last Snow Deer, whose atmospheric, myth-steeped artwork won the Irish Book Awards' older-children's illustration honour and makes the verse novel glow.

Dermot Flynn is an Irish illustrator, artist and designer, born on the northside of Dublin and now working between Dublin and London. He studied visual communication at NCAD and later trained in animation, spending time at StudioAKA before going freelance. For younger readers his standout work is Eilish Fisher's Fia and the Last Snow Deer, a verse novel set in snowbound prehistoric Ireland, which he brings to life with atmospheric, wintry artwork steeped in early Irish myth. His illustrations lean into landscape and mood, giving the story of a girl and her beloved snow deer a spare, quietly thrilling beauty. A decorated commercial and editorial artist as well as a children's illustrator, Flynn pairs a designer's eye with real narrative warmth.
