Eilish Fisher is an award-winning author of atmospheric novels-in-verse for older children, who grew up in Vermont but has spent most of her life in Ireland. A scholar of medieval Irish and English literature, she draws deeply on early Irish myth and landscape. Her debut, Fia and the Last Snow Deer, illustrated by Dermot Flynn, follows a girl fleeing across a frozen prehistoric wilderness to save her beloved snow deer from sacrifice; it won Children's Book of the Year (Senior) at the 2024 An Post Irish Book Awards and the Éilís Dillon Award. Her second verse novel, The Waters and the Wild, illustrated by David Rooney, moves a grieving girl from the desert to a walled Irish town after her father's death. Spare, luminous and quietly thrilling, Fisher's books are a beautiful bridge into the verse-novel form.
