Graham Carter: an illustrator-author with a bold, retro-styled graphic eye and an old-fashioned sense of wonder — his warm nature adventures are a treat for young explorers and bird-spotters.
Graham Carter is a British illustrator and printmaker whose richly textured, retro-styled artwork draws on nature, wildlife and vintage mechanical design. After studying at Brighton and Central Saint Martins, he built a busy commercial career, with work appearing in the Guardian, the Sunday Times and New Scientist, before turning to picture books. His author-illustrated debut, Otto Blotter, Bird Spotter, is a warm-hearted adventure about a boy from a family of bird spotters who befriends an enormous, ever-growing baby bird and helps it find home — bold, characterful and full of spreads to pore over. He has followed it with further titles including The Story Thief. Carter's work has a distinctive graphic confidence and an old-fashioned sense of wonder, making him a treat for young explorers and nature-watchers.
