Grégoire Laforce: a French-Canadian picture-book author of quietly philosophical nature fables — gentle, thoughtful stories about wonder, curiosity and letting the wild world be.
Grégoire Laforce is a French-Canadian picture-book author, a former military man who has rediscovered his more childlike side through writing for children. His quietly philosophical stories pair a spare, resonant text with strong illustrative partners. In Lucie and the Wind, illustrated by Yvan Duque, a girl who loves gathering the forest's treasures in little jars meets a wind she cannot capture, and slowly learns that nature is not a thing to be owned — a contemplative fable about wonder, curiosity and letting the natural world simply be. It follows his earlier titles The Lost Drop and Milo the Knight. Laforce writes gentle, thoughtful books that sit comfortably with reflective young readers and grown-ups who enjoy a picture book with something quiet to say.
