J M Forster: author of the Shadow Jumper mysteries, whose hero is dangerously allergic to sunlight — fast, red-herring-strewn adventures that weave disability naturally into the plot.
J M Forster is a British writer of mystery adventures for older children and young teens, living in Gloucestershire. A former careers adviser, she now writes full time, and her debut Shadow Jumper (2014) introduced one of the more memorable heroes in middle-grade mystery: Jack, a boy so severely allergic to sunlight that he must live in the shadows, whose search for his missing scientist father drives a tense, warm-hearted puzzle. Its sequel, Twilight Robbery, sends Jack across the city's rooftops to clear his name in a twisty crime caper. Inspired by a real light-sensitivity condition, Forster's Shadow Jumper books weave disability naturally into the heart of fast, red-herring-strewn plots, building empathy without sacrificing pace. A satisfying, accessible pick for nine-and-up mystery fans who like a resourceful hero and a puzzle to solve.
