Joe Sutphin is an American illustrator and cartoonist who lives and works in a barn in Ohio, inspired since childhood by the natural world and a father who painted farm landscapes. He is best known to younger readers for his richly detailed interior illustrations for Andrew Peterson's beloved Wingfeather Saga — On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness, North! Or Be Eaten, The Monster in the Hollows and The Warden and the Wolf King — where his two-page spreads bring the Igiby family's warmth, comedy and heartbreak to life. Beyond Wingfeather he has illustrated the New York Times bestselling Word of Mouse and re-envisioned classics such as Little Pilgrim's Progress, and he won a 2024 Eisner Award for the graphic-novel adaptation of Watership Down.
