Katie Abey: the colour-drenched British author-illustrator of sarcastic animals and joyful individuality — from her own interactive picture books to lively cartoons for comic fiction like Café Chaos.
Katie Abey is a British author-illustrator based in Derbyshire, known for a riot of colour and a cast of sarcastic, perturbed-looking animals. She both writes and illustrates her own interactive picture books — We Eat Bananas, We Wear Pants and their companions — which cheerfully celebrate individuality and encourage children to embrace their own weird and wonderful selves. Alongside her own titles she is a prolific illustrator for other writers, bringing her lively cartoon energy to comic fiction such as Catherine Wilkins's Jess Jackson and Café Chaos books, where her drawings sharpen the everyday chaos of friendship fallouts and family life. Warm, funny and unmistakably her own, Abey's work spans the youngest readers up to laugh-out-loud chapter books, and she runs a bricks-and-mortar shop, Punnydukes, with her husband.
