Leonie Lord: British illustrator whose warm, spacious artwork gives gentle nature books like Patience the room to breathe and turn waiting into wonder.
Leonie Lord is a British illustrator who studied illustration at Central Saint Martins in London and made her picture-book debut in 2008 with Martin Waddell's The Dirty Great Dinosaur for Orchard Books. She has since illustrated widely and written and illustrated her own titles, including Sofa Dog, bringing warm, characterful, expressive artwork to other writers' texts. In the corpus she illustrates Rachel Williams's Patience, a companion to Magic Cat's million-copy Slow Down series that travels across eighteen spans of time, from a single minute to more than a hundred years, to show how good things unfold at their own pace. Lord's warm, spacious illustrations give each moment room to breathe, turning waiting into wonder. Her work suits gentle, thoughtful sharing with children aged five to eight who enjoy nature, close looking and unhurried conversations about growing and changing.
