Linda Sarah is a British picture-book author with an unusual path into children's books, having worked as a singer and piano player in Paris before returning to Britain to take a Fine Art degree at the Slade School of Fine Art. She is best known for On Sudden Hill, luminously illustrated by Benji Davies, a tender and ultimately uplifting story about two best friends who build marvellous cardboard contraptions together, and the new boy who wants to join in. It handles a big childhood feeling, the jealousy of sharing a friend, with honesty and warmth, and remains a perfect starting point for talking about welcoming someone new. She has also written The Secret Sky Garden and Tom's Magnificent Machines.
