Lorena Alvarez is a Colombian author-illustrator, born and raised in Bogotá and trained in graphic design and art at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, whose work carries the vibrant colour of her hometown and the atmosphere of her Catholic-school childhood. Her Nightlights graphic novels are among the most dazzlingly beautiful comics in children's publishing: Nightlights follows Sandy, a girl who conjures creatures from the stars and must protect her imagination from an eerie new classmate, while its gentler sequel Hicotea sends her through a turtle's shell into a hidden museum of the natural world.
