M.H. Clark: American author-poet whose gentle, rhyming affirmation books like You Belong Here make tender, giftable keepsake read-alouds for the very young.
M.H. Clark is an American children's author and poet based in Seattle, where she is the chief storyteller for the gift publisher Compendium and is known for composing impromptu poems for passers-by at outdoor markets. She writes gentle, rhyming affirmation books that use verse to talk about big, tender feelings, and has been recognised with the Washington State Book Award, an Independent Publisher Book Award gold medal and two Moonbeam Children's Book Awards. In the corpus she brings You Belong Here, a lullaby of reassurance, beautifully illustrated by Isabelle Arsenault, that tells a child they belong as naturally as the stars, moon, wind and wild creatures belong in the world. Designed to be read softly and often, it is a keepsake read-aloud for bedtime, difficult days and new-family contexts. Clark's warm, giftable books suit children aged three to seven who need to hear that they are wanted and held.
