Margery Williams (1881–1944) was a British-American author, best known as the writer of The Velveteen Rabbit (1922), the canonical picture-book / illustrated chapter book about a stuffed rabbit who becomes 'real' through the love of a child. Illustrated originally by William Nicholson. The book has remained in print for over a century, has been adapted to film, stage and animation many times, and is a fixture of US and UK gift-shelf and bedtime-reading shelves.
