Meet the author
Peter Brown.
Writer & illustrator · United States · b. 1979
The author-illustrator behind The Wild Robot — spare, funny, deeply humane stories about belonging and the natural world, equally at home in a picture book or a novel.
Peter Brown is an American author-illustrator whose picture books and novels share a warm, slightly offbeat curiosity about the natural world and our place in it. Trained in illustration and animation, he made his name with witty, design-led picture books — among them Mr Tiger Goes Wild and the Caldecott Honor–winning Creepy Carrots! — before writing The Wild Robot, the story of a robot learning to belong on a wild island. That trilogy became a word-of-mouth modern classic and a DreamWorks film. Whether he is drawing a tiger who longs to run free or a robot mother raising a gosling, Brown returns again and again to belonging, nature and quiet independence, in a spare, funny voice that reads aloud beautifully.
