Susan Cooper is a British author born in 1935, best known as the writer of The Dark Is Rising sequence, five middle-grade fantasy novels (Over Sea, Under Stone; The Dark Is Rising; Greenwitch; The Grey King; Silver on the Tree) blending British folklore, Arthurian mythology and contemporary children's adventure into one of the canonical works of post-war English fantasy. Cooper has also written picture books (The Shortest Day, Tam Lin) and stand-alone middle-grade novels (King of Shadows, Ghost Hawk). The Grey King won the Newbery Medal. A canonical-classic British fantasy author for ages 10+.
