Terrie Chilvers is a British writer of very funny chapter books and non-fiction, based in London. Her debut, Michael the Amazing Mindreading Sausage Dog, was selected for the Blue Peter Book Club, and she works freelance as a copywriter and social-media consultant when she isn't inventing gross-out plots. Snails of the Unexpected, illustrated by Brenda Figueroa, is a madcap, joke-packed adventure in which two lightning-struck children can transform into absolutely anything, just in time to stop an evil slug masquerading as the Prime Minister from turning humankind into lettuces. Fast, silly and packed with the kind of comic-strip energy and gross-out invention that hooks reluctant readers, her illustrated chapter books are short, punchy and squarely aimed at children who like their heroes shapeshifting and their villains slimy.
