The shape of it

The shape of this universe.

Bird & Squirrel is James Burks's comic graphic novel franchise about an impulsive, adventure-hungry bird and an anxious squirrel who would really rather not be chased, frozen, tangled, eaten or thrown into another disaster. The series is bright, fast and very accessible, using an odd-couple friendship to turn fear and courage into jokes children can understand. It is more action-forward than cosy early graphic novels, with chases, predators and comic danger, but the peril stays cartoonish. The strongest fit is for newly confident readers who want big expressions, clear panels, slapstick and a friendship that grows through chaos.
