The shape of it
The shape of this universe.
Elephant & Piggie is Mo Willems' early-reader franchise about Gerald the anxious elephant and Piggie the impulsive, joyful pig. The books are brilliantly simple: speech bubbles, expressive body language, white space, repetition and comic timing do almost all the work. They are ideal for children just beginning to read independently because the language is controlled without feeling dull, and the emotional stakes are exactly child-sized: waiting, sharing, jealousy, worry, friendship, surprise and being in a book. The current seeded database contains only We Are in a Book!, but the wider published series is much larger.
A near-perfect early-reader friendship series: simple words, huge expression, proper jokes and very gentle emotional intelligence.
