The shape of it
The shape of this universe.
Frostheart is Jamie Littler's illustrated middle-grade trilogy about a small frozen village, a boy named Ash, and the strange creatures (the Leviathans) that swim under the snow. Littler is an artist first, and the books are densely illustrated, full chapters open with spreads, characters get little portrait sketches, the snowships are technical-drawn, which makes them work for newly-independent readers who still want pictures. The series mixes northern-mythology adventure with a found-family crew aboard a sled-ship, and the tone is warm and big-hearted under genuinely high stakes. Strong appeal for readers moving on from Hilda or Wings of Fire who want something a little weightier.
An illustrated snowbound adventure trilogy: northern myth, found family, monsters under the ice, for ages 8–11 ready for richer fantasy.
