Cath Howe: warm, perceptive author of Ella on the Outside and Not My Fault — empathetic contemporary novels about belonging, friendship and family change for 9–12s.

Cath Howe is a British children's author and teacher based in south-west London, who writes warm, perceptive contemporary novels about the emotional realities of growing up. A former secondary English and drama teacher who still runs writing workshops with young readers, she made her debut with Ella on the Outside in 2018 and has followed it with Not My Fault, How to Be Me, The Insiders, My Life on Fire and Two is a Crowd, all published by Nosy Crow. Her books turn an unflinching but tender eye on the pressures of school life, the longing to belong, sibling guilt, grief and family upheaval, often told through shifting viewpoints that let readers feel every side. Written with real empathy and honesty, they are quietly gripping reads for 9–12s navigating friendship, change and the courage to be themselves.
