Clement Hurd (1908–1988): canonical American illustrator behind Margaret Wise Brown's Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny — the bedtime-picture-book tradition's defining visual presence.

Clement Hurd (1908–1988) was an American illustrator, best known as the illustrator of Margaret Wise Brown's Goodnight Moon (1947) and The Runaway Bunny (1942), two of the most-bedtime-read picture books in the English-speaking world over the last seventy-five years. Hurd's style for those books, bright, primary-colour, lithographic, calmly composed, has become inseparable from Brown's text and from the bedtime-picture-book tradition. He also illustrated dozens of other picture books across his career, including collaborations with his wife, the author Edith Thacher Hurd. A canonical-classic American picture-book illustrator.
