Morag Hood: an Edinburgh author-illustrator whose deadpan, lino-printed picture books turn big feelings and odd pairings into something both silly and quietly reassuring for the three-to-six crowd.
Morag Hood is a Scottish author and illustrator based in Edinburgh, who writes and illustrates warm, wickedly funny picture books for the very young. After a degree in costume design and an MA in children's book illustration at the Cambridge School of Art, she made her debut with Colin and Lee, Carrot and Pea, followed by the Sophie Johnson books and titles such as Seahorse is Furious. Working often in lino print, she has a gift for pairing simple, characterful artwork with a dry, deadpan wit that lands equally with toddlers and the grown-ups reading aloud. Her stories tend to take a big feeling, a friendship wobble or an unlikely pairing and turn it into something both silly and quietly affirming, making her a reliable choice for read-aloud sessions with three-to-six-year-olds.
