What’s it about?

The story.

When Pablo and Splash tell their cheeky friend Benji about Vikings and their impressive longships, Benji becomes desperate to steal a time machine and go plundering for treasure. Pablo and Splash must travel to Viking-era Ireland in time to warn the monks about the imminent invasion and somehow make their own mark on history. This fourth full-length volume keeps the series' successful structure: two expressive penguin best friends, a new historical period, time-machine trouble and enough visual comedy to keep even reluctant readers moving. The Viking setting adds longships, raids and ancient-history adventure, but the tone remains firmly comic rather than frightening. Because it is a 2026 title, taxonomy should be lightly reviewed after publication, but current publisher metadata clearly positions it as a main-series 240-page graphic novel rather than a mini-book.

Sheena Dempsey

Writer & illustrator · Ireland

Sheena Dempsey is an Irish author-illustrator based in London, best known to UK children's readers as the illustrator of the Dave Pigeon chapter-book series by Swapna Haddow and as the author-illustrator of the Pablo and Splash graphic-novel series. Her style is clean-lined, character-led and gently absurd, with strong slapstick comic timing, Dave Pigeon's vain self-importance and Pablo's penguin-and-time-travel chaos both rely on her ability to draw expressive, slightly haunted animal faces. A reliable visual signal of warm, funny chapter books and early graphic novels for ages 5–9. Crossover appeal with Dog Man / Bunny vs Monkey readers who want something a bit gentler.
