What’s it about?
The story.
Luis (the large furry one) and Pablo (the small furry one) are the very best of friends. Their days are slow and lovely: wandering through nature, playing songs on the guitar, and sharing bowls of Slow Joe McNally's pinecone porridge with their woodland neighbours. But when dreamer Luis receives an unexpected invitation to a performance of The Weary Mermaid in the big, bustling city, the bright lights prove impossible to resist. So the two friends set off together on the long, winding, unpredictable journey through the Bewilderness, a trek full of odd encounters, big questions and small kindnesses. Luckily, Luis doesn't have to go it alone, and it's a good thing too, because the Bewilderness is a very long way and Luis has an awful lot of questions. Gus Gordon's graphic novel debut is a cosy, clever, gorgeously illustrated adventure, all soft colours, jellybean-shaped friends and offbeat charm. A delight for readers who love a warm, wandering story about friendship and the pull of somewhere new.

A gentle graphic novel for independent readers of 8-12, and a lovely bridge for younger or reluctant readers thanks to its low peril and generous pictures. Cosy rather than action-packed, so best for children who enjoy a wandering, character-led story.
